Bank of China
Banking excellence from Asia, to the Netherlands
The Bank of China celebrated the official opening of its first office in the Netherlands on July 16, 2007. For a branch with just 10 employees, the opening was celebrated on a grand scale, complete with a traditional lion dance. More than 100 guests went to the World Trade Centre and listened to the speeches from a member of the Board of Directors, a representative of the Chinese Embassy and the Mayor of Rotterdam.
The Dutch office of the Bank of China aims to offer its private banking services to the nearly 30,000 Chinese citizens that live in the Rotterdam area and to the rest of the Netherlands. In a couple of years you might even find yourself at Westblaak withdrawing money from a Chinese ATM machine or applying for a mortgage.
Eventually, the financing of trade between the Netherlands and China is expected to become the main activity of Bank of China in Rotterdam. The trading will initially be between the Dutch branches of Chinese companies based China. Bank of China (Luxembourg) S.A. Rotterdam branch profiles itself as the gateway for Dutch companies that want to trade with China. The decision to establish in Rotterdam was a logical one since one-third of the containers that arrive to its port are from China.
